General
- If an accumulator within a system is acting SLUGGISH, test
the gas precharge.
- If the precharge is LOW, recharge to the proper pressure.
Check the gas valve for leakage.
- If there is NO GAS IN THE BAG and FLUID APPEARS AT THE GAS
VALVE, disassemble and inspect the bag for breaks. If there
are EXTERNAL FLUID LEAKS, tighten all connections. If leakage
persists, disassemble and replace faulty parts.
Note: the following accumulator service tools are recommended:
Adjustable spanner wrench — p/n 309783
Core tool — p/n 309784
Bladder pull rod (required: 1 for 10 cu.in. to
2½ gal.; 2 for 5 gal.; 3 for 10 & 11 gal.; 4 for 15
gal.) — p/n 600763
Portable charging head (used with hose assy.
and gauge) — p/n 701009
Permanent charging head (10 cu. in to 150 cu.
in.) — p/n 700019
Permanent charging head (1 gal. to 40 gal.) —

Bottom Repairable Bladder
Accumulator
Preparation for maintenance
Removal of accumulator from system:
- Exhaust all hydraulic pressure from the system
by opening the exhaust bypass valve or
actuating the control valve.
- Remove the valve guard and dynaseal from
the accumulator. Older models have a valve
guard and valve cap.
- Use a valve core tool to release gas precharge
pressure from the accumulator bladder.
- Remove complete accumulator unit from
system by applying a wrench to the flats
of the plug (located at the base of the
accumulator).

Disassembly
- Securely clamp the accumulator (preferably
in a chain vise). Make sure the accumulator
shell is suitably protected by strips of padding
or metal on the vise base.
- Remove core from gas valve using valve core
tool.
- Remove locknut from plug and poppet
assembly using a spanner wrench and an
adjustable wrench. One for torque and one
for countertorque (Photo A).
- Remove spacer
- With the palm of hand, push the plug and
poppet assembly into the shell (Photo B).
- Insert hand into the shell and remove “‘O” ring,
washer and anti-extrusion ring from plug. Fold
anti-extrusion ring to enable removal (Photo
C).
- Remove plug and poppet assembly from shell.
- Use a suitable wrench to remove the nut from
the valve stem (Photo D), while holding valve
stem from twisting with a second wrench
applied to the valve stem flats.
- Insert hand into the shell fluid opening.
Depress the bag and eliminate as much gas
pressure as possible.
- Grasp the heel of the bladder and withdraw it
from the shell (Photo E).
Cleaning & Inspection
- After disassembly, clean all parts with an
approved cleaning solution (such as varsol).
- Blow all the parts dry with air and place them
where they will be free from foreign matter.
- Check all elastomer items for deterioration,
abrasion marks, cracks, holes, bubbles or any
similar defects.Replace all “O” rings and any other items
