Maintenance 25, 40, 80, 100 and 120 gallon
surge suppressors
Disassembly
Note: these large size surge suppressors may
require a suitable “A” frame with hand crank hoist.
- Close shut-off valve; thereby, isolating the
surge suppressor from the system.
- Open bleed valve to completely exhaust
residual liquid pressure.
- Remove four socket head cap screws and
valve guard (top of unit).
- Remove gas valve cap and open gas valve
to release all gas pressure from bladder assembly.
- Remove gas valve, needle valve and pressure
gauge from valve stem of bladder assembly.
- Install bladder puller with 1/8" NPT into
appropriate port on valve stem. Bladder
puller consists of an eye bolt with 1/8" NPT
Male thread on shank and a length of
3/16" diameter nylon rope approximately
six feet long (which is tied to the eye bolt).
- Holding the bladder puller, remove locknut
(gas end) and remove from shell. Then
push valve stem assembly into shell, lowering
it approximately six to eight inches
from opening. Secure rope to nameplate
bracket. CAUTION: DO NOT ALLOW
WEIGHT OF VALVE STEM ASSEMBLY
TO DROP INTO SHELL.
- Insert hand into opening (gas end) and remove
plate from the shell.
- Insert hands into shell and remove anti-extrusion (rubber) ring by passing ring
over the rope to the outside of the shell.
(NOTE: Anti-extrusion ring must be bent
at the middle and held at an angle to clear
the shell opening.) Untie rope and remove
attached parts.
