Precharging Method
(See Note A before proceeding.)
-
Mount gland nut of hose assembly on nitrogen
bottle.
-
Remove cap from gas charging valve and
attach swivel connector of hose assembly. Hand tighten sufficiently to compress gasket
in swivel connector in order to prevent
gas leakage.
-
Proceed to pressurize surge suppressor to
predetermined pressure by opening valve
on nitrogen bottle slowly, closing it occasionally
to allow needle on pressure gauge
to settle in position, thus giving accurate
reading of precharge pressure.
-
When correct precharge has been
reached, close valve in nitrogen cylinder
securely.
-
Bleeder valve can be used to let out any
gas pressure in excess of desired
precharge..

Removal
-
(For units up to and including 10 gallon) Retract shaft of air chuck by turning bar handle counterclockwise to full stop position before disconnecting swivel; thereby, preventing excess leakage of gas from surge suppressor. Remove chuck from
surge suppressor gas valve stem. (For units
25 gallons and over) Using two wrenches, keep the bottom nut of the gas valve stationary and rotate the top nut of the valve
in a clockwise direction, closing the valve. Remove chuck from surge suppressor gas valve stem (Photo R).
- Charging and gauging assembly may either
be coiled around nitrogen cylinder or the assembly may be removed from the cylinder and stored.
- (For units up to and including 10 gallon)
Check surge suppressor gas valve assembly
for leaks with soapy water solution. If
valve core is leaking, depress quickly once
or twice to reseat core. It may be necessary
to tighten the core further or replace
core altogether if leakage persists. (For
units 25 gallons and up) Check surge suppressor
gas valve assembly for leaks with
soapy water solution.
- Replace surge suppressor gas valve cap
and tighten one-half turn beyond hand
tightness.
- Replace surge suppressor valve guard.
- Check for precharge loss within one week
after installation.
Periodic Precharge Testing To test precharge
periodically without using charging hose assembly,
see Note A and follow the instructions
for installation and removal of this charging
and gauging assembly. Bleeder valve can be
used to let out any gas in excess of desired
precharge pressure.
Periodic Testing of Operating Pressure To read
operating pressures of surge suppressor, see
Note B and follow the instructions given for
installation and removal.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to avoid excessive
wear and damage to gauges, do not test
operating pressures continuously.
